It was a strange news day yesterday… I began this with a friend in mind but it escalated so I thought I’d share.
A Pakistani man and Latvian woman were arrested on their wedding day by the immigration office for trying to cheat their way into the country.
David Norris’ Irish presidential race is cut short as word breaks of his affection for a friend who raped a 15 year old boy.. Oh and our trees are dying at an ever increasing rate. Northern Ireland is the only part of Europe to see its tree coverage retreat!
And there’s always a good chuckle when Jim McAllister is around. he took offence to a humorous sign held aloft at the Gay Pride march in Belfast this past saturday. “Jesus had two dads and he turned out alright”. To see him all worked up and serious made my cup of tea taste that much sweeter.
However, with all that comic relief out of the way, I bring you the shocker. I pretty much couldn’t believe my ears when I heard this blasphemy being projected from the box.. bare with me here.
10,000 Presbyterians saved ‘X’ amount of money in the Presbyterian Mutual Society, run by the church and possibly affiliated with the British Government. The scheme went bust about 5/6 years ago and they’ve been trying to figure out how to repay those foolish enough to invest in the first place.
“In his High Court judgement, Mr Justice Deeny held there was a moral obligation on the church to honour its pledge to contribute to the government-established bail-out,
“Only members of the Presbyterian Church could be members of the Presbyterian Mutual Society,” he said.
“It would be paradoxical if the general body of taxpayers funded all of the assistance without any contribution from the church.”"

However, if I am to believe what I heard on BBC Newsline, the conclusion they’ve come to is for the British Government to Loan Stormont the money, with a plan for Stormont to pay Britain back using the Tax’s that we kindly pay each year. Now wait, seems ok right? Maybe not.. I’m breaking this down for my own benefit.
10,000 P’s put money into PMS.
PMS goes bust.
Church and Government are in debt to the people.
So instead of the church or government taking responsibility, they slyly confront the Stormont Executive with a ‘loan’ to fix it, and then we (as a whole nation) have to bust our chops to pay back a debt that was raised by a religious cult. One that in no way represents the opinions, beliefs, or indeed character of true human beings in the North of Ireland.
What’s worse is if the current property climate cannot improve by the proposed date we’ll never be able to get out of the red. I guess I’m asking for some clarification if you know any more on the topic. I’ve tried looking for more on yesterdays article but can’t find anything right now. This seems pretty serious.
*I tagged some of you fine people as I wanted to spread the word/shed some light on the matter. I hope you dont mind.**I use the word Britain simply to differentiate between countries. You can deal with your own political hang-ups.
